MoonPay to operate in all 50 US states after NY BitLicense approval
MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payments company, announced it will now serve users in all 50 US states following the approval of its BitLicense and money transmitter license by the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). This regulatory approval enables MoonPay to operate without gaps across the country, making it one of 35 digital currency businesses authorized to function in New York. MoonPay’s co-founder and CEO, Ivan Soto-Wright, stated that this regulatory stack facilitates their nationwide service capabilities. The BitLicense is mandatory for any digital asset business operating in New York or managing investments from its residents. The announcement comes shortly after MoonPay revealed plans to establish a new headquarters in New York City and its licensing to operate in the Netherlands under the EU’s MiCA framework. New York's stringent regulatory environment has previously impacted other crypto firms, but the city's importance as an economic center continues to attract digital currency companies. Mayor Eric Adams has supported the industry despite past legal challenges related to cryptocurrency operations.
