Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella introduced two healthcare AI innovations, notably MAI-DxO, which simulates a panel of virtual doctors. In tests using 304 complex cases from the New England Journal of Medicine, MAI-DxO achieved 85.5% diagnostic accuracy, significantly outperforming a group of 21 experienced physicians who only achieved 20%. The system uses the Sequential Diagnosis Benchmark (SDBench) to mimic medical practices, asking questions, ordering tests, and adjusting as new information comes in, while also considering cost efficiency. For instance, at peak performance, MAI-DxO provided diagnoses at significantly lower costs compared to traditional physician expenses. Although Microsoft acknowledges that the technology is still in research phases, the company aims to collaborate with healthcare organizations for clinical validation, recognizing the potential AI has in addressing costly diagnostic errors that impact millions each year. The initiative signals Microsoft's commitment to enhancing healthcare services with advanced AI technology.
