Ripple has launched the XRP Ledger's Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain on the mainnet to enhance interoperability within the XRP ecosystem. This development allows developers to deploy Ethereum-based decentralized applications (dapps) on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) at a low cost. The EVM-compatible sidechain offers a flexible environment while maintaining connection to XRPL’s efficient infrastructure. David Schwartz, Ripple's CTO, emphasized that this extends the ecosystem's capabilities without undermining XRPL's reliability. The sidechain acts as a separate blockchain linked to the XRPL via the Axelar bridge, with XRP serving as the native gas token. It aims to empower developers by integrating with a user base of over 6 million wallet holders and plans to incorporate Wormhole for additional interoperability, significantly boosting the accessibility of the XRP ecosystem for EVM developers.
