US sanctions crypto wallet tied to ransomware, infostealer
The US Treasury has sanctioned the Russia-based Aeza Group, alongside its senior executives and a crypto wallet linked to ransomware and info-stealer services. The Aeza Group, known for providing bulletproof hosting (BPH) services, is accused of facilitating cyber crimes by selling access to specialized servers and infrastructure. The sanctions, issued by the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), also target several Russian and UK companies and individuals associated with Aeza. A Tron blockchain address linked to Aeza was identified as an administrative wallet used for processing payments, obscuring the traceability of customer transactions. Aeza allegedly provided services to various ransomware and malware groups like Meduza, BianLian, and the BlackSprut dark marketplace. OFAC's actions freeze all US assets related to Aeza and prohibit financial transactions with the Group. Blockchain security firms emphasize that such sanctions are crucial in disrupting the supply chain of cybercrime, marking a significant move by the US government in combating these illicit activities.
