Jay Clayton, the interim US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has recommended that discussions occur between prosecutors and defense attorneys regarding a potential resolution of the case against Michelle Bond, the wife of former FTX Digital Markets co-CEO Ryan Salame. In a court filing, Clayton requested an exclusion of seven days under the Speedy Trial Act, allowing time for both sides to negotiate without trial. Bond was indicted on campaign finance charges in August 2024, stemming from her failed bid for a US House seat in 2022. Her legal team has motions in place to dismiss some charges, citing prior verbal agreements from prosecutors. This case is one of the few remaining criminal proceedings connected to the demise of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. Ryan Salame has already pleaded guilty and is serving time, while other former executives are also facing prison sentences. The discussions prompted by Clayton aim to potentially resolve the case efficiently without proceeding to trial.
