US Court to Hear Arguments for Sam Bankman-Fried’s Appeal On Nov. 4
Almost two years after Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his involvement in the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, his legal team will present arguments in an appeal hearing scheduled for November 4 at the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. This hearing represents the first significant event in Bankman-Fried’s criminal proceedings since his 2023 conviction. Bankman-Fried’s lawyers filed for the appeal in April 2024, arguing that he was never presumed innocent and contending that prosecutors had misrepresented the situation regarding FTX user funds. Bankman-Fried’s case included prominent charges against a notable figure in the cryptocurrency sector, and a reversal by the appellate court could lead to a new trial or sentencing. Following his sentencing, several associates of Bankman-Fried were also charged and sentenced, whereas speculations continue around the possibility of a presidential pardon from former President Donald Trump.
