Uber Expands AI Push After Meta’s Scale AI Investment
Uber is promoting its data labeling services following Meta’s acquisition of Scale AI, which has reportedly caused concern among some of Scale’s existing partners like OpenAI and Google. Uber executive Megha Yethadka stated that they are expanding their AI business by providing large data sets and tools to organizations developing their own AI models. This includes licensing Uber’s data labeling platform to aid customers in building AI agents. Data labeling, which involves tagging or annotating raw data like images and text to enhance their understandability for AI models, is seen as a growing market expected to reach over $17 billion by 2030. The expansion follows Meta's investment in Scale AI, which has unsettled clients such as OpenAI, prompting changes in their existing partnerships. Tech firms are increasingly investing in AI, with over $300 billion expected to be spent this year alone, as they vie for dominance in a field that many believe is on the verge of significant developments, such as the advent of artificial general intelligence.
