Uber Expands AI Push After Meta’s Scale AI Investment
Uber is enhancing its AI initiatives by promoting its data labeling services to potential clients after Meta acquired 49% of Scale AI. This acquisition has raised concerns among existing Scale clients, including OpenAI and Google. Uber has been offering its data labeling platform and 'coders for hire' since November 2024, designed to assist companies in developing their AI models. Uber executive Megha Yethadka emphasizes that the company aims to serve as a platform for flexible on-demand work in this new digital task landscape. The firm’s expanded services aim to provide customized data solutions to create smarter AI models and agents. Data labeling, which involves tagging raw data so that it can be effectively understood by AI models, is projected to become a market worth over $17 billion by 2030. Big Tech companies, including Uber, are investing heavily in AI infrastructure, further intensifying competition in the industry as they strive for dominance in this pivotal, evolving sector.
