Trump’s CFTC Chair Pick Faces Uncertain Future as Other Candidates Vetted
Former CFTC member Brian Quintenz, nominated by Donald Trump to chair the agency, now faces an uncertain future as reports indicate the Trump administration may be considering other candidates. The administration is reportedly looking at Josh Sterling, a former CFTC director, and others like Tyler Williams, a counselor to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Quintenz, nominated in February, stalled after a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing in June with no vote scheduled. The CFTC has been operating with only an acting chair since the departure of Kristin Johnson, raising concerns about market oversight. Influential cryptocurrency figures, the Winklevoss twins, have reportedly pushed for an alternative candidate, highlighting their involvement in crypto regulation. Their financial contributions to pro-Trump campaigns may contribute to shaping policies at the CFTC. A letter urging Trump to reconsider his nomination has left Quintenz's position tenuous as confirmation from the Senate appears increasingly unlikely.
