Trump-backed American Bitcoin orders 16K Bitmain ASICs amid ongoing trade war
American Bitcoin, a Bitcoin mining company supported by members of former President Donald Trump’s family, has ordered 16,299 Antminer U3S21EXPH units from Bitmain, amounting to approximately $314 million. This hardware is expected to deliver about 14.02 exahashes per second (EH/s) of mining power. The deal comes amid ongoing trade tensions that could affect the costs of mining hardware produced in China due to tariffs and import duties. In response to these pressures, Bitmain plans to establish its first Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturing facility in the U.S. by the end of 2025, as well as potentially opening a headquarters in Texas or Florida. The move to relocate operations has been spurred by tariffs impacting the Bitcoin mining supply chain, leading manufacturers to reconsider their production locations. Critics of the Trump administration's tariff policies argue that they could inadvertently harm U.S. miners and create an oversupply of mining hardware, undermining the intended goal of boosting domestic production.
