Top US Democrat signals fight over crypto market structure
Senator Elizabeth Warren has indicated strong opposition to the proposed Digital Asset Market Structure Clarity (CLARITY) Act during an MSNBC interview. Although Congress is not in session until September 2, Warren emphasized the necessity of regulation in the crypto sector, arguing against legislation influenced by the crypto industry that could exacerbate corruption. She underlined the urgent need to protect the economy from potential crypto-induced instability. The CLARITY Act, which received bipartisan support and was passed in the House, aims to regulate aspects of the digital asset market, including stablecoins. Warren plans to mobilize Democratic opposition as the Senate gears up for consideration of the act in September. Recent legislation, such as the GENIUS Act, which regulates payment stablecoins, has already been signed into law, and further discussions on the CLARITY Act are anticipated after the congressional recess. The White House has also contributed recommendations concerning the roles of financial regulators in overseeing digital assets.
