Telegram has launched its native cryptocurrency wallet, TON Wallet, for users in the US, representing a significant development in its blockchain services. This self-custodial wallet, integrated into the Telegram app, allows users to send, receive, and store digital assets like USDT and Toncoin without external downloads. Users can interact with the broader TON ecosystem, which encompasses gaming, payments, decentralized finance (DeFi), and digital marketplaces. Notable features of TON Wallet include direct transfers akin to messaging, control over private keys, and 0% fees for USDT purchases through Apple Pay and Google Pay. Additionally, an off-ramp feature enables withdrawals to bank cards, enhancing usability. The wallet is expected to strengthen Telegram's in-app economy and support the Mini Apps expansion. Outside the US, the wallet is already available across Asia and Russia, with over 100 million users globally having activated it by 2024. Developed by The Open Platform, the TON Wallet is touted as crucial for user engagement within Telegram's ecosystem.
