Thou shalt not shill: Fake ‘Vatican Chamber’ token presale exposed
The Vatican Bank has distanced itself from a fraudulent cryptocurrency project called Vatican Chamber Token (VCT), which falsely claims affiliations with the bank. The scam promoted an exclusive invitation to join a non-existent organization called the 'Vatican Chamber of Trade,' featuring elaborate promises including private investor introductions and presale access to tokens. The project’s website misuses the Vatican's contact information and attempts to validate its existence with a misleading link on Wikipedia, which was flagged as vandalism. The VCT token claims to have a supply of 10 million, priced at 25 euros each, and purportedly promises a diverse investment portfolio. However, the website features unrealistic eligibility criteria, demanding registered businesses meet specific financial thresholds to participate. The fraudulent nature of the project is underscored by its connection to a Coinbase wallet and the apparent ease of creating deceptive web domains. This incident is part of a broader trend of scams proliferating in the cryptocurrency realm, as seen in recent high-profile fraud cases.
