Streamer Kitboga has engaged scammers for nearly 4,000 hours through a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme designed to waste their time while gathering intelligence on their operations. Kitboga’s setup includes a fraudulent Bitcoin ATM receipt that leads scammers into a complex maze of tedious tasks, such as annoying CAPTCHAs and long hold times on calls, ensuring they cannot scam anyone else during the process. Over the past year, approximately 500 scammers have been caught up in this scheme, averaging almost three hours per scammer, with the longest session lasting 156 hours. By using these tactics, Kitboga not only produces entertaining content but also collects actionable information that can assist law enforcement in tracking down malicious actors within the cryptocurrency space. The initiative highlights the ongoing problem of cryptocurrency scams and demonstrates innovative methods for countering them while protecting potential victims.
