A content creator known as Kitboga has successfully trapped scammers for nearly 4,000 hours using a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme. This initiative involves creating a fake receipt that scammers attempt to redeem, leading them into an infinite maze filled with tedious tasks, like solving CAPTCHAs and navigating confusing automated calls. Over more than a year, Kitboga's team has engaged approximately 500 scammers, extracting valuable information and raising awareness about scams while also wasting scammers' time. The average duration scammers spend in this maze is just under three hours, with one individual spending an astounding 156 hours trying to redeem nonexistent Bitcoin. The scheme highlights the dangers of Bitcoin ATMs, often targeted by scammers, and serves as both entertainment and a method for gathering intel to combat fraud. Kitboga aims to expand this strategy to target other forms of scams, such as those involving gift cards. His initiative has garnered significant attention and support, including a partnership with the exchange Kraken to share intelligence.
