A YouTube and Twitch streamer known as Kitboga has devised a strategy that has wasted approximately 4,000 hours of scammers' time by creating a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme. This initiative has trapped around 500 scammers, forcing them to navigate a series of tedious tasks, such as solving intricate CAPTCHAs and dealing with confusing automated responses, all while they are misled into thinking they might access nonexistent Bitcoin. Kitboga has also integrated an entertainment aspect into the scheme, making it a channel for educating people about scams. He began this endeavor over eight years ago after witnessing scammers take advantage of vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly. The scheme features an intricate design where scammers are left on hold for hours, repeatedly interacting with nonsensical prompts, while Kitboga gathers information that can assist in law enforcement actions against these malicious actors. Collaborating with cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, he has been able to help freeze the funds of scammers by tracking addresses they inadvertently share during their interactions.
