YouTube and Twitch streamer Kitboga has created a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme that has trapped scammers for nearly 4,000 hours. This initiative not only wastes the scammers' time but also collects valuable intelligence to help combat their operations. When scammers attempt to extract money from victims via Bitcoin ATMs, they are lured into a cleverly designed maze that includes tedious tasks, like solving CAPTCHAs and navigating a confusing automated phone system. Over a year, approximately 500 scammers have engaged with this maze, spending an average of almost three hours each, with one person demoralizingly trapped for 156 hours. Kitboga's approach not only delivers entertaining content for his followers but also assists in identifying scammers, as they often reveal key information during interactions. As a result, Kitboga has collaborated with exchanges like Kraken to thwart malicious activities, proving that a creative strategy can significantly hinder scam efforts.
