A YouTube and Twitch streamer, Kitboga, has devised a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme that has successfully wasted about 4,000 hours of scammers' time. By creating a mock Bitcoin ATM receipt with a non-redeemable QR code, Kitboga lures scammers into a convoluted maze where they navigate tedious tasks, including frustrating CAPTCHAs and lengthy hold times filled with nonsensical phrases. Over 500 scammers have fallen into this trap, leading some to spend as long as 156 hours attempting to redeem the nonexistent Bitcoin. The method not only serves to waste the scammers’ time but also allows Kitboga to gather intelligence that he can share with law enforcement to combat scams. His efforts have helped freeze funds tied to scams, leveraging his platform to educate the public about the tactics used by scammers and how to avoid them. This innovative approach represents a blend of entertainment and social service, as Kitboga strives to protect vulnerable individuals from falling prey to fraudsters.
