Kitboga, a YouTube and Twitch streamer, has ingeniously trapped scammers for nearly 4,000 hours using a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme. By creating a non-redeemable receipt for Bitcoin, he has led scammers through a series of frustrating tasks, including tedious CAPTCHAs and endless hold times. His team, which actively searches for scammers to engage, aims to waste their time while collecting intelligence to thwart their operations. Over the past year, around 500 scammers have participated, with an average engagement time of just under three hours. Kitboga’s approach transforms the scam baiting experience into both entertaining content and a mission to disrupt scammers’ activities, sometimes resulting in actionable information shared with law enforcement. He describes the maze-like scheme as an effective tool for gathering information while providing entertainment through the absurdity of the interactions, such as ridiculous phrases that scammers must repeat while on hold. Kitboga emphasizes that each call he occupies means a scammer is unable to target real victims, such as susceptible elderly individuals.
