A YouTube and Twitch streamer known as Kitboga has effectively trapped scammers for nearly 4,000 hours through a fake Bitcoin ATM scheme. The initiative is designed not just to waste the time of these scammers but also to gather intel that can be used to combat their activities. Scammers, convinced they are working to redeem Bitcoin from their victims, are subjected to tedious tasks and frustrating automated calls that lead to long holds. Kitboga's method involves creating a fake ATM receipt with a QR code linked to a useless exchange, alongside a 1-800 hotline that plays confusing prompts. This has wasted an average of three hours for about 500 scammers, with one individual spending as long as 156 hours in the maze. Kitboga aims to keep scammers engaged so they cannot target other victims, turning the experience into both a light-hearted venture and a serious endeavor to combat fraud. His efforts are supported by Kraken, a crypto exchange, which aids in sharing intel about scammers, further amplifying the impact of his work.
