Tether has abandoned its plan to freeze USDT smart contracts on the Omni Layer, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand blockchains. Users will still be able to transfer tokens on these chains, but Tether will no longer issue or redeem USDT on them, which means these tokens will not receive the same official support as those on more widely used platforms like Tron and Ethereum. This decision was made after feedback from the communities involved, reflecting Tether's strategy to focus on blockchains with strong developer activity and user demand while still allowing limited operation on less popular chains. Omni Layer, in particular, will be most affected, holding approximately $82.9 million in USDT circulation. Tether's review of its support for these blockchains has been ongoing for two years, culminating in this decision to stop support after receiving community feedback. The move fits within the broader context of growing stablecoin markets and continued interest in crypto ecosystems.
