Status Unveils Gasless Layer 2 Feature on Linea
Status has launched what it claims is the first natively gasless layer 2 network on Consensys called Status Network, currently in testnet. This new L2 eliminates transaction costs entirely and operates differently from conventional rollups by rewarding liquidity providers and builders through yield generated from bridged assets and app fees. Lead at Status Network, Cyprien Grau, emphasized that this setup allows developers to create games and DeFi protocols without requiring users to preload gas or builders to manage paymaster contracts. The approach also converts bridged ETH and stablecoins into yield-bearing assets, channeling the income to support the ecosystem and creating a frictionless user experience. Users can interact with apps without bridging tokens or topping up gas, enhancing blockchain game engagement. The mainnet is expected to go live in the first quarter of 2026.
