This proof encompasses all Bitcoin block headers from the genesis block to the present, totaling just 1 megabyte in size compared to the full Bitcoin blockchain, which is over 680 gigabytes. This lightweight client leverages Simplified Payment Verification (SPV), enabling users to authenticate transactions without needing to set up a full node, which can be costly and technically complex. With the rise in Bitcoin node requirements and concerns about decentralization, StarkWare’s solution aims to enhance accessibility for users. Additionally, Bitcoin Core developers plan to limit the amount of non-monetary data embedded in transactions, addressing concerns about increasing node storage needs. This development could help maintain the decentralized nature of the Bitcoin network amid rising operational costs for node operators.
