SharpLink Nabs BlackRock Exec Who Helped Launch Bitcoin, Ethereum ETFs
Joseph Chalom, BlackRock's former head of digital assets strategy, has joined SharpLink Gaming as co-CEO. Chalom played a pivotal role in launching BlackRock's Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs and plans to leverage his expertise to further SharpLink’s mission of integrating Ethereum into the global financial landscape. This move also signals a leadership transition at SharpLink, with current CEO Rob Phythian set to become president. Chalom's appointment is seen as an endorsement of SharpLink's strategy to utilize Ethereum, which is fundamental to their treasury management. The company holds over 360,000 ETH, valued at more than $1.3 billion, and recently sought to raise up to $6 billion to expand its ETH holdings. SharpLink aims to create a link between institutional capital and Ethereum yield through its public equity, with its asset represented by the ticker SBET. Following the announcement, SharpLink shares saw a decline of over 6% in value, reflecting ongoing volatility in the market.
