SharpLink Gaming has appointed Joseph Chalom, former head of digital assets strategy at BlackRock, as co-CEO. Chalom was instrumental in launching BlackRock's Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs and has a significant background in strategy for digital assets. In a statement, he expressed his belief that Ethereum is becoming a foundational element of global finance. SharpLink's founder and Chairman praised Chalom’s impact on institutional adoption of digital assets. Under Chalom's leadership, the firm aims to enhance shareholder value by leveraging Ethereum through staking and other yield-bearing strategies. SharpLink holds over 360,000 ETH, valued at more than $1.3 billion, and recently acquired nearly 80,000 ETH to expand its treasury. It is also planning to raise up to $6 billion to facilitate further ETH purchases. Meanwhile, shares of SBET have dropped over 6% amidst market fluctuations, reflecting ongoing challenges in the crypto landscape. Chalom’s transition highlights a growing trend of merging conventional finance with blockchain technologies, as firms seek to capitalize on the increasing institutional interest in cryptocurrencies.
