SharpLink Nabs BlackRock Exec Who Helped Launch Bitcoin, Ethereum ETFs
Joseph Chalom, formerly BlackRock's head of digital assets strategy, has joined SharpLink Gaming as co-CEO. Chalom played a pivotal role in launching BlackRock’s Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs and led their digital asset strategy for two decades. He expressed enthusiasm for Ethereum's potential, stating it could become the foundation of global finance. Following his appointment, SharpLink’s current CEO, Rob Phythian, will transition to president. SharpLink, which holds over 360,000 ETH valued at over $1.3 billion, aims to utilize Ethereum for yield-generating strategies. The company recently acquired nearly 80,000 ETH and plans to raise up to $6 billion through a stock sale to boost its ETH purchases. Despite this significant move, shares of SharpLink dropped over 6% on the day of the announcement, indicating a turbulent market reaction. In related news, BlackRock's iShares Ethereum Trust achieved over $10 billion in assets, showcasing growing investor interest in Ethereum investments. This development underscores the ongoing institutional embrace of digital assets and the evolving landscape of crypto finance.
