SharpLink Nabs BlackRock Exec Who Helped Launch Bitcoin, Ethereum ETFs
SharpLink Gaming has appointed Joseph Chalom, former head of digital assets strategy at BlackRock, as its co-CEO. Chalom played a pivotal role in launching Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs at BlackRock, overseeing the firm’s digital asset strategy and strategic ecosystem partnerships. His departure marks a significant shift, as he transitions into a leadership role at SharpLink, a company focusing on Ethereum treasury operations. Chalom expressed excitement about joining SharpLink, which he believes is aligned with the vision of Ethereum becoming the backbone of global finance. Under his leadership, current CEO Rob Phythian will shift to the role of president. SharpLink aims to enhance shareholder value by leveraging Ethereum through various yield-bearing strategies such as staking. The firm has accumulated over 360,000 ETH, valued at approximately $1.3 billion, and plans to utilize funds from a recent stock sale to continue expanding its digital asset treasury. However, the company's stock has recently experienced a decline, dropping over 6% on the day of the announcement and over 31% in the past week, reflecting market fluctuations related to its strategic moves.
