Roman Storm’s potential retrial pushed back following court extension
Roman Storm’s legal team and US prosecutors have agreed to extend procedural deadlines affecting the possibility of a retrial for the Tornado Cash co-founder. Recently, a New York jury found Storm guilty of one out of three charges related to conspiracy to run an unlicensed money business. Following this, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, led by Judge Katherine Failla, approved a schedule that delays any potential retrial on the conspiracy to commit money laundering and conspiracy to violate sanctions charges. Prosecutors have not confirmed their intent to retry Storm, but any retrial proceedings are likely to be postponed until late 2025. Storm, who was indicted in August 2023, maintains his innocence and has been released on bail. His co-founders face similar legal challenges, with one, Alexey Pertsev, having been sentenced to over five years in prison, while the other, Roman Semenov, remains at large.
