Ripple's CTO David Schwartz clarified that the company does not control the XRP Ledger. In an interview, he explained that although Ripple is a significant contributor to the ecosystem, it runs only about 1% of the network's validators, which notably includes just one on the XRP Foundation's default Unique Node List. This debunks the persistent belief that Ripple can censor transactions. Unlike some networks with thousands of validators, XRP Ledger has only around 186 active validators, raising questions about decentralization. Schwartz emphasized that for any changes to occur in transaction processing, 80% of the network must approve, indicating that Ripple cannot unilaterally influence transaction activities. He also noted that Ripple holds a substantial amount of XRP but is committed to decentralizing its control by reducing its validator presence since the XRP Ledger's inception in 2012.
