Qubic community, Monero's 51% attacker, votes to target Dogecoin next
The Qubic community, known for its AI-focused blockchain project, has decided to target the Dogecoin network after successfully executing a 51% attack on Monero. The vote was clear, with Dogecoin receiving over 300 votes, surpassing Zcash and Kaspa. Sergey Ivancheglo, founder of Qubic, indicated that the decision follows the network's significant control over Monero's hashrate, where it managed to dominate with around 2.32 GH/s. Despite this control, Qubic assured that Monero's core functionalities, including privacy and speed, remain intact. However, the implications of a single miner controlling a major network lead to concerns about the integrity of mining-based cryptocurrencies. Post-attack, some exchanges temporarily halted Monero deposits due to fears over network integrity, although trading and withdrawals continued uninterrupted. The move towards targeting Dogecoin sparks concerns for other proof-of-work blockchains, revealing vulnerabilities in their security frameworks.
