Prediction market PredictIt is set to launch an expanded exchange after receiving approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Initially starting as an academic platform in 2014, PredictIt has since grown to accommodate over 400,000 active users. The upcoming platform will diversify beyond political markets, although details about new markets are not yet disclosed. Previously, PredictIt faced regulatory challenges, including a suspension by the CFTC in 2022 due to violations of its limited operating conditions. As of July 2025, after intense negotiations, PredictIt secured an arrangement that allows it to operate under the Prediction Market Research Consortium, Inc. The exchange will join a competitive landscape, where rivals like Kalshi have begun expanding their offerings into areas such as sports markets. Prediction markets allow users to bet on outcomes of future events, with platform flexibility to trade shares at any point. This impending launch marks a significant milestone for predictive trading in the U.S.
