Porsche is set to unveil its 11 kW wireless charging system for the 2026 Cayenne Electric at the IAA motor show in Munich. The system, which will first launch in Europe in 2026, is notable for using a floor pad that transfers power to a receiver under the vehicle, achieving about 90% efficiency, similar to plug-in charging. This marks Porsche as the first automaker to bring inductive charging to a fully electric SUV at scale. The charging pad is designed to be safe, with motion sensors and foreign-object detection. Future owners can manage charging through the My Porsche app. However, this luxury convenience comes at a steep price, with estimates suggesting costs of approximately €7,000 ($8,660) for both the receiver and charging pad plus installation. While wireless charging is still evolving in the U.S., Porsche's rollout gives the technology significant legitimacy, potentially paving the way for wider adoption in luxury vehicles.
