The Polygon Heimdall V2 mainnet, responsible for consensus in the Polygon proof-of-stake chain, experienced a temporary outage due to a suspected consensus bug. The disruption began around 9:30 UTC and lasted for one hour, caused by an unidentified validator exiting the network. During this period, the Bor layer, which manages transaction execution, continued functioning without interruption, producing blocks as expected. After the service was restored, Polygon identified sync inconsistencies across RPC providers’ Bor nodes, and they are collaborating with partners to resolve these issues. Previous outages with Heimdall V1 occurred due to software bugs that led to validators operating on different blockchain versions. Despite advancements from the recent upgrade that lowered finality times and enhanced the tech stack, the complexities in the network can create new vulnerabilities.
