Plasma builds out senior team ahead of mainnet: Exclusive
Plasma, a forthcoming layer-1 blockchain designed for stablecoins, has appointed three senior hires including Murat Firart as head of product, Adam Jacobs as head of global payments, and Usmann Khan as head of protocol security. This move follows a significant token sale that raised $373 million for the Peter Thiel-backed project. Plasma has yet to announce a mainnet launch date. The blockchain aims to facilitate over 1,000 transactions per second with zero-fee USDT transfers, enabled by an in-protocol paymaster. These zero-fee transfers will specifically apply to Tether’s USDT, highlighting a strong relationship between Plasma and Tether, as Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino is involved in the project’s funding. Since emerging from stealth in October 2024, Plasma has also made other key hires, reinforcing its commitment to creating a blockchain tailored for stablecoin usage, thus testing the theory that stablecoins require their own dedicated blockchain infrastructure. As the mainnet approach nears, Plasma emphasizes stablecoins as first-class citizens crucial for global money movement in the digital era.
