The Philippine government has launched a blockchain-based document validation system utilizing Polygon, coinciding with a temporary network outage. Maria Francesca Montes-Del Rosario from the Department of Budget and Management announced the system aims to counteract threats posed by AI-generated deepfakes and prevent document falsification. A collaboration with Bayanichain will enhance transparency and accountability in public finance by tracking government budget documents on the blockchain. The new system allows users to search and validate documents via a Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) or Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) code. Although the network experienced a ‘consensus bug’ during the announcement, resulting in some front-facing services being affected, the issue was resolved within a few hours. The document verification system is expected to establish a permanent record-keeping framework for government documents, improving public policy and governance through advanced technologies.
