Ordinals Leaders Threatens Bitcoin Core Fork To Avoid Censorship
Leonidas, a leader in the Bitcoin Ordinals community, has threatened to fund a fork of Bitcoin Core if developers decide to censor Ordinals, Runes, and non-financial transactions. This warning comes amid a division within the Bitcoin community regarding whether node validators should focus solely on financial transactions or also include larger non-financial data transactions, which critics label as spam. In response to this potential censorship, Leonidas argued for the need to maintain Bitcoin's censorship-resistant nature, stating that the DOG Army would support an open-source fork that minimizes policy rules. His comments follow a statement from Blockstream CEO Adam Back, who views these transactions as unnecessary in the timechain. Additionally, the outcry comes as Bitcoin Knots, an alternative to Bitcoin Core, gains traction, with a noticeable increase in nodes. The anticipated update on October 30 aims to lift a limitation on data size, further intensifying these debates about transaction types and network prioritization.
