Nasdaq files application to add staking for BlackRock iShares ETH ETF
Nasdaq has submitted an application to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on behalf of BlackRock to integrate staking into the iShares Ether ETF. This development comes as traditional financial institutions look for ways to earn yields on their holdings, with staking rewards based on using Ether as collateral in Ethereum's proof-of-stake model. May's SEC classification of staking rewards as earned income has opened avenues for institutional investors to generate cash flow from their ETH investments. The demand for staked ETH has been notable, with over 36 million ETH staked as of July, reflecting a significant portion of Ethereum's supply. Moreover, institutional investment in Ether has surged, with significant capital inflows into Ether ETFs. This strategic move by BlackRock and Nasdaq emphasizes the growing interest in Ethereum as both a technology and an investment asset, appealing to treasury strategists seeking more than just passive storage for their assets.
