Metaplanet Expands Bitcoin Holdings Again in Steady March Toward 2026 Goal
Metaplanet has further increased its Bitcoin holdings, adding 780 BTC to bring its total to 17,132 BTC, valued over $2 billion. This move is part of its aggressive strategy to accumulate Bitcoin, initiated in 2024, with a new target of 100,000 BTC by the end of 2026. Funding for this latest acquisition came from the issuance of over 23 million shares, aimed at redeeming corporate bonds and supporting Bitcoin purchases. With Bitcoin prices near $119,200, Metaplanet is looking to secure approximately $10 billion to achieve its ambitious goal, aiming for around 4,900 BTC per month moving forward. The company has positioned itself as a leading corporate Bitcoin holder, following the significant investment strategies of early adopters like Michael Saylor. This strategy indicates Metaplanet's strong belief in Bitcoin's future and an increasing trend among investment firms in Japan to acquire digital assets, exemplified by their updated '555 Million Plan' which replaced earlier modest targets for Bitcoin accumulation.
