Metaplanet Buys 2,204 Bitcoin Worth $237M
Japan’s Metaplanet has acquired 2,204 Bitcoin for $237 million, making it the fifth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin globally with a total of 15,555 BTC. The purchase was announced recently, with the new Bitcoin acquired at an average price of approximately $107,700. This acquisition follows a previous purchase in late June, where Metaplanet bought 1,234 BTC, increasing its total to 12,345 BTC at that time. Other notable corporate holders include Tesla, which has 11,509 BTC, and major investments from firms like Anthony Pompliano’s, which bought 3,724 BTC for $386 million. Industry analysts have expressed concerns about sustainability in Bitcoin investments for new entrants, pointing out that the potential for high returns may already be limited due to increased competition in corporate treasury accumulations. As of now, Metaplanet’s strategy showcases a significant commitment to Bitcoin amidst a yellowing interest from various corporations in the cryptocurrency market.
