Metaplanet and The Smarter Web Company have added nearly $100 million in Bitcoin to their corporate treasuries, making significant strides in the crypto corporate landscape. On August 12, Japan's Metaplanet announced its purchase of 518 Bitcoin for about $61.4 million, averaging around $118,519 per coin, raising its total holdings to 18,113 BTC valued at approximately $2.15 billion. This positions the company as the sixth-largest public Bitcoin holder globally. Meanwhile, The Smarter Web Company acquired 295 BTC for £26.3 million ($35.2 million) at an average price of $119,412 per coin, enhancing its total to 2,395 BTC, with an unrealized gain of about $20 million. The aggregated increase in Bitcoin holdings amongst corporations has raised concerns about asset concentration risks, with analysts cautioning that such concentration could expose Bitcoin to vulnerabilities. Notably, as of July, corporate entities held about 791,662 BTC, representing roughly 4% of the circulating supply.
