Metaplanet Aims to Raise $5.3 Billion to Buy More Bitcoin
Metaplanet, a Japanese Bitcoin treasury, has announced plans to raise $5.3 billion through the issuance of 555 million shares, departing from the typical discount pricing strategy in similar financings. The company, aligned with the recent trend of corporations increasing their Bitcoin holdings, currently owns 8,888 BTC valued at approximately $934 million. The CEO, Simon Gerovich, highlighted that this innovative approach to capital formation positions Bitcoin as a new benchmark in the financial space. The company's ambitions include acquiring an additional 210,000 Bitcoins by 2027, substantially increasing its stakes in the leading cryptocurrency. This move mirrors strategies employed by firms like MicroStrategy, which also focuses extensively on Bitcoin acquisition as a corporate strategy. Metaplanet's share price has reportedly risen by over 600% in the past year, reflecting increasing investor confidence in its Bitcoin-centric model.
