Metaplanet, Japan’s leading Bitcoin corporate treasury firm, has acquired an additional 1,111 Bitcoin, raising its total holdings to 11,111 BTC. This brings Metaplanet close to Tesla’s holdings of 11,509 BTC. The recent purchase cost approximately 17.26 billion Japanese yen (around $117 million), with an average price of just under $105,500 per coin. Despite Bitcoin trading lower at around $102,000, the company maintains a lower cost basis of $95,560 per coin. This acquisition follows a recent buy that had increased Metaplanet's total to 10,000 BTC, after slipping in ranking behind Hut 8, but now regaining its eighth position. Other firms are also expanding their Bitcoin treasuries, including Nakamoto Holdings looking to acquire more coins, and Parataxis Holdings engaging in public market initiatives. As of now, over 237 public companies hold Bitcoin, collectively owning more than 832,000 BTC, representing about 3.96% of the total supply.
