Meta Breaks Up AI Lab as Part of Superintelligence Push
Meta is restructuring its AI Superintelligence Labs into four focused divisions as part of a strategic push towards developing AI superintelligence. The change comes after a $14 billion investment in Scale AI and a significant hiring spree targeting top AI talent from other firms. The new structure will see Meta’s chief AI officer, Alexandr Wang, leading one of the divisions, which will focus on research, infrastructure, and product development. The four new groups include a research division led by Wang, the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR), Product and Applied Research led by Nat Friedman, and MSL Infra handling AI infrastructure. This restructuring aims to accelerate progress towards superintelligence, a vision CEO Mark Zuckerberg has prioritized, highlighting its potential to empower humanity's progress. The reorganization also hints at integrating third-party AI models into Meta's products, signaling a shift from previous reliance on in-house AI development. Some executives may depart as a result of these changes, but Meta remains committed to leading in AI development.
