London Stock Exchange lists new Bitcoin staking ETP
DeFi Technologies' subsidiary Valour has launched a Bitcoin staking exchange-traded product (ETP) on the London Stock Exchange, offering investors the ability to earn yield on their Bitcoin holdings. The ETP promises a 1.4% annual yield, supported by Bitcoin stored in cold storage with added security provided by multiparty computation technology. Currently, this product is available only to institutions and professional investors. On October 8, the UK will reintroduce cryptocurrency exchange-traded notes (ETNs), a move that signifies a shift toward easing restrictions on digital assets. Although the announcement did not detail how the yield will be generated, Valour has a precedent with another Bitcoin ETP that uses coin delegation on the Core Chain to achieve yield. Bitcoin staking typically does not generate direct yield, but holders can explore other avenues such as lending platforms or layer-2 networks. This launch coincides with growing interest in cryptocurrency innovations in the UK and efforts to boost the sector in collaboration with the US.
