Ledger has unveiled an offline tool called Ledger Recovery Key designed for private key recovery, facilitating access to crypto wallets without needing cloud services or personal identification. This new solution allows users of Ledger Flex or Ledger Stax wallets to store their recovery keys on a smart card equipped with NFC technology. Unlike its predecessor, Ledger Recover, which involved cloud storage and identity verification, Ledger Recovery Key is always offline, requires no personal data, and is protected by a PIN. Users can easily recover assets by tapping the smart card and entering their PIN. The hardware utilizes Secure Element technology for safety, and its application code is open-sourced for transparency. Internal security testing was performed by Ledger's white hat hacker team, Donjon, and it has undergone external audits by cybersecurity firm Synacktiv. Ledger anticipates receiving further feedback from the community before the official launch of the Recovery Key.
