Kroll faces class-action suit over FTX creditors' phishing emails
Kroll, a financial and risk advisory firm, is facing a class-action lawsuit following a data breach that allegedly exposed information of FTX, BlockFi, and Genesis creditors. Filed in a US district court by Hall Attorneys on behalf of affected creditors, the complaint highlights that these creditors have been vulnerable to phishing attacks due to the breach that occurred in August 2023. The lawsuit claims Kroll was negligent in its handling of communications, relying solely on email outreach, which compromised the claims verification process and led to delays and potential loss of funds for creditors. Prominent FTX creditor Sunil Kavuri reported receiving multiple phishing emails since mid-August, indicating ongoing risks. The lawsuit aims not only to seek damages but also to demand operational changes at Kroll to improve communication. This lawsuit is one of several challenges Kroll has faced, as they had reported another data breach in March where client's invoicing details were compromised. A third reimbursement round for FTX creditors is scheduled to begin on September 30, with estimates indicating excluded foreign creditors in this payout round.
