Kerberus acquires Pocket Universe to build crypto antivirus
Cryptocurrency security platform Kerberus has acquired Pocket Universe, a popular fraud prevention and browser extension, to create a dedicated antivirus for crypto. The acquisition involves Refract, the developer of Pocket Universe, in a seven-figure deal. Kerberus intends to integrate Pocket Universe with its own security extension, Sentinel3, and expand protection across various chains, including Solana. Co-founder and CEO Alex Katz highlighted the urgency for crypto security amid rising malware threats. Founders Justin Phu and Nishan Samarasinghe of Pocket Universe will step back but continue to support Kerberus. Ran Neuner, a strategic adviser and distribution partner, emphasized the importance of user trust in the crypto space. Kerberus, founded in 2023, has successfully provided security, but Katz and CTO Danor Cohen recognize a gap in antivirus solutions in the crypto industry. They plan to develop a product that offers direct protection against malware, with a minimal viable product expected in four months. Experts agree that traditional antivirus solutions do not adequately address crypto-specific threats, necessitating innovative protective measures.
