Japanese credit card users can now convert their loyalty points into cryptocurrency thanks to SBI Group's APLUS in collaboration with SBI VC Trade. Cardholders can exchange 2,100 loyalty points for over 2,000 Japanese yen worth of crypto tokens, specifically bitcoin, ether, or XRP, translating to roughly $13 at current exchange rates. This initiative marks a notable shift as it is the first time cryptocurrency has been integrated into APLUS's reward program, which has previously focused on cashback and partner rewards. The feature is opt-in and applicable only to qualifying cards under the APLUS Points program. This development underscores Japan's progressive regulatory stance towards cryptocurrencies, allowing users to engage with crypto in a regulated environment without speculative pressure. SBI has longstanding ties with Ripple, making XRP a familiar asset on its exchange since VC Trade's inception in 2018.
