Japan’s Metaplanet buys 1,234 BTC, now holds more than Tesla
Metaplanet, Japan’s largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, announced the purchase of an additional 1,234 Bitcoin, increasing its total holdings to 12,345 BTC. This positions Metaplanet ahead of Tesla, which holds 11,509 BTC. The acquisition, which was made at an average price of 15.6 million yen (about $108,000) per coin, signifies a substantial investment as Bitcoin trades at $108,150, reflecting a 1.4% gain over the last 24 hours. Metaplanet aims for rapid expansion and plans to acquire a total of 201,112 BTC by 2027, estimated to cost over $21 billion at current prices. This comes after the company’s board approved an additional capital contribution of up to $5 billion to accelerate its growth plans. This trend of increasing Bitcoin holdings is part of a broader movement among corporations to invest in cryptocurrencies, following similar actions by firms like Nakamoto Holdings and Norwegian crypto companies.
