Iranian Exchange Nobitex Restarts After $90M Hack
Nobitex, an Iranian crypto exchange, is gradually resuming services following a significant $90 million hack linked to the pro-Israeli hacker group Gonjeshke Darande. The group declared their intent to target the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps specifically, but the attack has resulted in substantial disruptions for ordinary users. As of now, Nobitex has announced that verified users will regain access to their accounts to check wallet balances, although service features remain limited. The attack drained the exchange of digital assets, including approximately $49.3 million in Bitcoin and significant amounts of other cryptocurrencies. Experts indicate that the attack impacted many civilians, who rely on crypto as a hedge against the country's inflation crisis. Despite the hack, the exchange claims around seven million users. Analysts note a potential shift in public sentiment toward nationalism rather than anti-regime sentiment due to the perceived attacks from abroad.
